Aurous Resources
Aurous Resources owns and operates a set of gold mine assets located in Johannesburg's West Rand. Once some of the largest gold producing mines on Earth, Doornfontein and Blyvooruitzicht are established, long-life gold mines with cost-competitive and highly scalable production, backed by an extensive, proven reserve life.
Doornfontein Mine
The Doornfontein Gold Mine, located approximately 80 km west of Johannesburg near Carletonville, South Africa, was established in 1947.
The mine, formerly managed by Gold Fields, was a cornerstone of the region's deep-level gold mining industry. Large-scale shaft sinking was undertaken, and a massive subterranean network was established, to exploit the Carbon Leader Reef—a phenomenally rich, deep-level gold seam.
Over the years, Doornfontein yielded millions of ounces of gold, significantly contributing to South Africa’s position as a global gold mining powerhouse.
The Doornfontein Gold Mine was formally merged with its adjacent neighbour, the Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine, in 1995. The merger combined the two properties into a unified, substantial asset, designed to optimise ore recovery and achieve significant operational cost savings across the Far West Rand goldfields.
Blyvooruitzicht Mine
The Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine, located approximately 70 km south-west of Johannesburg near Carletonville, South Africa, was established in 1937.
The mine, initially developed by Rand Mines, was the pioneer operation on the famous West Wits line. It established an expansive underground network to exploit the ultra-rich Carbon Leader Reef and the overlying Middelvlei Reef, making it a foundation of the region's deep-level mining dominance.
Over its multi-decade history, Blyvooruitzicht broke global annual production records twice. It yielded over 1.5 million ounces of gold in its first seven years alone, cementing its reputation as one of the world's most profitable gold mines.
Blyvooruitzicht was formally merged with its adjacent neighbour, the Doornfontein Gold Mine, in 1995 to optimise Far West Rand ore recovery.
Our Story
In 2015, Founder and CEO Richard Floyd purchased both assets, as well as the Gauta tailings retreatment project, and has dedicated substantial resources to re-permitting, re-planning, re-capitilising, re-launching and bringing back high margin production at the Doornfontein and Blyvooruitzicht gold mines.
The first gold pour took place in November of 2020 and the mine has constantly been producing at high margin ever since. To date, the mine has delivered over two tons of gold to Rand Refineries, despite not yet reaching full economies of scale in its operation.
Today, Aurous Resources is re-investing in further upgrades to the mine's facilities to improve its operational efficiency. Under the Aurous Resources management team, Blyvoor Gold has quickly become a set of established world-class profitable mining assets with outstanding long-term prospects.

Our Approach
The Doornfontein and Blyvooruitzicht gold mines have a proven 34 year reserve life, with a century-long resource base (established through extensive feasibility studies), coupled to extensive historical underground development, with 400km+ of established tunnels, to support substantial long-term scalability.
The mines are located in the Witwatersrand Basin, which holds the world’s largest gold resource base contained in a 7,000m thick interbedded sequence of argillaceous and arenaceous sedimentary rocks.
Total historic output from the broader region is more than 1.5 billion ounces of gold, representing c.22% of historic global gold production.
Throughout the redevelopment of the mines infrastructure Aurous Resources has focused on developing and embedding stringent policies, processes, and preventative measures to ensure enhanced safety standards and a company wide commitment for the protection of every employee, and reduced operational risk.
Aurous Resources has also established strong community relations and deeply entrenched union relationships, operating as one of the few gold miners in South Africa with a mine-specific employee union, The Blyvoor Workers Union.

HIGH MARGIN OPERATIONEXPERIENCED LEADERSHIPSignificant capital invested to date in the refurbishment of surface and underground infrastructure at Blyvoor 5 shaft (Treatment plant, Eskom Yard, and five vertical shaft winders) has enabled Aurous Resources to employ an ongoing through-the-cycle efficient, low-cost and de-risked production, with relatively low capital intensity required for any future planned production ramp up.
Aurous Resources operates the Doornfontein and Blyvooruitzicht mines with a highly experienced, hands-on leadership team, complemented by advanced technical expertise and proven deep-level experience.
The company operates with over 1,800 employees - 90% of whom are permanent, 70% from the local community - and has seen a 75% increase in female hires over the prior financial year.
